what's your book
i had a revelation moment this past weekend. i'm not sure what brought it on, but -bam- there it was.
i was sitting in the living room, thinking about children's books, or stories from my childhood and remembering my favorite book when i was a young thing with my hair in curly pigtails. little red hen, baby. that was *it* for me. i read that book over and over - just couldn't get enough of it.
(this is when the light bulb went on over my head)
for those of you not familiar with the book, little red hen is a classic children's story about a hen that needs to do certain tasks like plant wheat, harvest wheat, take the wheat to the mill to be made into flour, make bread, cook bread, etc. all through the story, along her path, she asks people to help her do these things. "who will help me plant this wheat? who will help me grind this wheat into flour?", etc. all along the way this hen, who at the heart of things is just tryin to get some shit done.. is told 'not I', by everyone she asks for help. so, God love her, she keeps going and manages to do every single thing by herself with no help from anyone else.
i'm fairly sure that this is why i am the way i am now. i *despise* asking people for help because for so much of my life i've asked for help and haven't gotten it. eventually i became a person that stopped asking and just decided that instead of asking and being disappointed, damnit.. i'd just do it all myself. i *am* the little red hen.
little red hen wins in the end though, because.. not only did she manage to do everything she needed to do without anyone else's help.. but when that bread is baked and everyone offers to help her eat the bread.. she tells them to screw off and eats all the bread herself. YOU GO LITTLE RED HEN#@$!!
i'm also pretty sure that most of us do have a book that may explain a lot about ourselves. i was having this discussion with one of my friends from class, and her book is that "grover" (sesame street) book where grover yells "DO NOT TURN THIS PAGE@#$@#" on every other page of the book. she said this is why she's scared to death of everything as an adult.
so... what's your book?

Mine is "Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs." I just can't get over the "bread city" at the end.
There's a lot more I love about that book.... the absurdity (yet when haven't we seen whales, ice cream, goblins, or what-have-you in the clouds?), the drawings... but I always have been a bread lover!
